Simba was neutered two days ago, he’s come home very sleepy he’s distant and doesn’t pay attention to sound or touch. He’s eating and drinking but not peeing or pooping. Also when he did pee he peed for a long time and it was very unusual
It’s understandable to be concerned about Simba's behavior and symptoms following his neutering surgery. Some of what you’re observing can indeed be normal post-surgery responses, but there are a few key points to monitor:
Firstly, it’s quite common for cats to be lethargic and a bit distant as they recover from the effects of anesthesia and the stress of surgery. Simba might be sleepy and less interactive for a couple of days, which is normal. Just make sure he has a quiet and comfortable place to rest during this time.
It’s a positive sign that Simba is eating and drinking. Continue to keep an eye on his intake to ensure he remains hydrated and well-nourished.
Regarding his urination and defecation, it’s not unusual for a cat to skip a day or two post-surgery. However, the fact that he had a long and unusual urination could indicate some discomfort or a potential urinary issue. Make sure his litter box is clean and easily accessible to encourage normal use.
If Simba is urinating outside the litter box, this could be a sign of stress, discomfort, or a urinary tract issue. Given that these symptoms have persisted for two days and include unusual urination patterns, it would be wise to contact your veterinarian. They can check for any post-surgical complications or urinary issues that might need immediate attention. It’s important to rule out any serious conditions to ensure Simba’s recovery is smooth and uneventful.
If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you.

Thank you for the response. Simba only peed really long once and hasn’t peed since. it’s been a day and a half. Another question.. I should be keeping my cat in a small room , right because he’s freshly neutered.
It's definitely concerning that Simba hasn't urinated in a day and a half. This could indicate a potential urinary blockage or another serious issue, which can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly. I recommend contacting your veterinarian immediately to discuss this symptom and possibly arrange for an urgent examination.
Regarding keeping Simba in a small room, that’s a good idea. Post-neutering, it’s beneficial to limit his activity to prevent any strain on the surgical site and to monitor his recovery more closely.
Thank you again! Simba urinated again in his litter last night and is still eating and drinking he’s walking around a bit more. Day 3.
I'm glad to hear that Simba is showing signs of improvement and seems to be on the mend.
It's important to keep a close eye on his eating, drinking, and litter box habits during this recovery period. Make sure he has a quiet and comfortable space where he can rest undisturbed. Limiting his activity for the next few days will also help to prevent any complications with his surgical site.
