He got into a fight with something outside. I have been using dog first aid wound clean, and have him in a cone so he can’t scratch it
It sounds like your dog has been through quite an ordeal. The scabbing and hair loss around the neck area could indeed be a result of the fight, and it's great that you're already taking steps to clean the wounds and using a cone to prevent scratching. Here are a few additional steps you can take to help your dog heal:
Firstly, continue cleaning the wounds with the dog first aid wound cleaner. This will help prevent any potential infections. It's also important to monitor the area for signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pus, or a foul odor. If you notice any of these symptoms, it might be necessary to seek veterinary care.
Additionally, make sure the affected area stays dry, as moisture can promote bacterial growth. If the wound is in a place that gets wet easily, consider covering it with a clean, breathable bandage.
It's also crucial to ensure the cone is properly fitted and not causing additional discomfort or irritation. The cone should be snug but not too tight. Try to keep your dog calm and limit physical activity to prevent further injury to the area.
Since the issue has been ongoing for a few days, keep an eye on your dog for any other symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or changes in behavior. If the scabbing and hair loss do not improve or if you notice any signs of infection, it would be best to consult a veterinarian for further evaluation and treatment. They might prescribe antibiotics or other medications to help with the healing process.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. Thank you.
