Daisy has been itching her stomach and has a history of allergies. I’m not sure if this is a flare up. She is mostly an inside dog and only goes out to go to the bathroom. She has been itching at this spot on her underbelly for about 5 days now. I am worried it is going to get infected.

Given her history of allergies and the fact that this issue has been ongoing for five days, it's crucial to address it promptly to prevent any potential infection.

First, gently clean the affected area with a mild antiseptic solution or saline solution. This can help remove any debris and reduce the risk of infection. Next, try to prevent Daisy from scratching the area further. You might consider using an Elizabethan collar, commonly known as a cone, to stop her from reaching the irritated spot.

You can also apply a pet-safe hydrocortisone cream to reduce itching and inflammation. However, avoid using human medications unless specifically advised by a veterinarian. Keep an eye on the area for signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pus, or a foul odor. If you notice any of these signs, it's important to seek veterinary care immediately.

Given Daisy's history of allergies and the persistence of this issue, it would be wise to take her to a vet.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you.
