Started as a cyst and slowly turned to a big opened wound. I been trying my best due to financial reasons I can’t take him in. So I need help with things I can try to get him at least in a more comfortable place
I'm sorry to hear about your cat's condition. An open wound that started as a cyst and has persisted for two months, especially on the head, is quite concerning. Given your cat's age and the presence of vomiting, it's essential to address this promptly.
To help manage the wound and make your cat more comfortable at home, here are some steps you can take:
First, gently clean the wound with warm water and a mild, non-irritating soap. You can also use a saline solution (saltwater) to clean the area. Avoid using hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, as these can be too harsh and delay healing.
After cleaning, you can apply a mild antiseptic like povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine to help prevent infection. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label.
To prevent your cat from licking or scratching the wound, use an e-collar (cone). Continuous licking can exacerbate the wound and introduce bacteria.
If possible, cover the wound with a sterile gauze pad and secure it with medical tape. This can help keep the area clean and protected from further injury.
Keep an eye on the wound for signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pus, or a foul odor. If you notice any of these signs, it indicates that the wound may be infected and requires immediate attention.
Ensure your cat stays hydrated and continues to eat. You might need to offer more palatable food options like wet food or warmed-up meals to encourage eating.
Given the severity and duration of the wound, along with the vomiting, it's crucial to seek veterinary care as soon as possible. The wound may require professional cleaning, debridement, and possibly antibiotics to prevent or treat infection. Additionally, the vomiting could be related to the wound or another underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
